Hopscotch Seven Dials Beach Clean
Our Hopscotch Seven Dials spent the morning, in the glorious seafront sunshine, taking part their first Brighton beach clean.
In association with the Marine Conservation Society and Brighton & Hove City Council, the nursery organised a group of pre-school children to walk to the beach and litter pick near the Peace Statue in Hove.
The aim of the clean was to ensure that our children develop an awe and wonder of their planet and to appreciate and care for the gifts it gives us such as aquatic life, animals insects and plants.
The group did a great job of identifying the different types of rubbish and using litter pickers to pick it up. There was lots of discussion about the effect rubbish has on the environment. Children were particularly sympathetic to the idea of turtles thinking plastic bags are jellyfish, eating them and becoming unwell. The children decided they would Stand Up for Sea Life and teach their friends to look after sea creatures too by never littering and if they couldn’t find a bin, they should take their rubbish home.
