Celebrating Earth Day with the Launch of Our Hopscotch Sustainability Strategy

At Hopscotch, we’re passionate about giving children the very best start in life — and that includes helping them grow up in a world that’s healthy, green, and thriving. This Earth Day, we’re proud to launch our brand new Sustainability Strategy, setting out how we’re working to reduce our environmental impact while inspiring children to care for the planet too.

Why Sustainability Matters to Us

Sustainability has always been close to our hearts. From day-to-day nursery activities to the way we power our buildings, we know that the choices we make today shape the future our children will inherit. Our new strategy helps us build on this foundation, offering a clear direction for how we can do even more — together.

Our Key Focus Areas

The strategy covers ten core areas, each designed to help us operate more responsibly and teach children to love and respect the natural world:

What We’re Already Doing

Sustainability isn’t new to Hopscotch — we’ve already taken great strides. All of our nurseries are powered by 100% renewable energy, and we’ve been embedding environmental values throughout our curriculum. At Hove Station, we recently introduced a wormery to help children learn about composting and food waste in a fun, hands-on way.

We’ve also teamed up with researchers at Brighton University to explore our carbon footprint, so we can make informed decisions about where and how to reduce emissions going forward.

Looking Ahead

This strategy is a living guide — not a strict rulebook. It gives us a framework to reflect on where we are and where we want to be. Over time, we’ll be introducing new ideas, activities and improvements across our nurseries, always with children’s learning and wellbeing at the centre.
